A "keen" is a lament for the dead, but in this lament a young widow blesses Death for taking her love from her while their romance was still unspoiled, sparing her years of what she knows would have been a harsher reality. The poem concludes: "I'd rather be bride to a lad gone down / Than widow to one safe home." Range: B- G#; duration: 2'45". |
