This arrangement (for alto solo and piano) of the German carol "Maria durch ein Dornwald ging" employs a brand new English singing translation of the text which matches the beautiful mystical quality of the much-loved tune. The first verse paints a picture of Mary walking through a forest of barren thorn-bushes, the second provides a climactic moment in praise of the Virgin Mother, and the last verse is an awestruck description of the miraculous blossoming of roses as Mary passes each tree.
