| This little gem from Mendelssohn's "Vier Lieder für vierstimmigen Männerchor" (op. 75) deserves to be better-known, and so, for male choirs for which the German words might be a barrier, I offer this English singing translation of two of the original three verses. (This leaves open the possibility of singing one verse in the original German.) My edition makes several improvements on the score as found in the Leipziger Ausgabe, or as formerly published by Breitkopf und Härtel, in terms of beaming, breath-marks, dynamics, and readability of text. A version for SATB is also available. |
