| The treble version of this arrangement is the "original" one, being commissioned for Elektra by one of the choir's second altos in 2006, and recorded by them on a CD entitled "Chez Nous: Christmas with Elektra" (the audio sample provided is an excerpt from that recording). The arrangement alternates sprightly rhythmic verses with lyrical refrains, as the wassailers identify themselves ("we are your neighbours' children"), wish their hosts "a happy new year," and then hint, in successive verses, that they have both purses and stomachs that could do with filling! |
